On April 28-29, 2012 Nebraska Crew traveled to Topeka, KS for the Lake Shawnee Spring Classic. On Saturday, the team spent the day on the water for the last 2k regatta of the season. The varsity women's four took 5th, women's novice eight took 4th, women's novice four B boat took 6th, women's novice four A took 4th, the novice men's four took 2nd and the men's double took 4th in their respective races. On Sunday, the team looked forward to the 400m sprints but were delayed due to weather. The storm cleared briefly enough for our mixed four, mixed double and women's novice eight to take the water. The women's novice eight found success with their first gold medal of the season. Unfortunately, the weather caused another delay and the team was forced to head back home early.
The team also continued end of the year traditions by awarding novice man, George Pagano, the Oarsman Award and varsity woman, Michaela Burns, the Spirit Award. We also recognized our graduating seniors, Jose Morales and Maria Warhol.
We returned to Lincoln to unload the trailer for the last time of the season. As we close our boathouse for the summer, we look forward to returning in the fall with even higher goals, renewed varsity and novice teams and a successful season.
